Santa Pola

Santa Pola is situated in the middle of the Costa Blanca (white coast). The Costa Blanca stretches for over 200 miles from Valencia to La Manga in the south east of Spain. With an average temperature of 18C, the World Health Organisation has designated this area as one of the four best and healthiest climates in the world.

The lovely coastal fishing town of Santa Pola is approximately 15 minutes drive south of Alicante International Airport and is easily accessed from the A7 motorway. Located beside beautiful stretches of golden beach with crystal clear sea. Many of the beaches hold the European Union Blue Flag which symbolises high environmental standards and good sanitary/safety facilities. For those seeking unforgettable holidays with sun and calm seas, the town's popular beaches are the place to be.

Santa Pola is surrounded by large natural salt lagoons and parks which attract many species of exotic birds, including Flamingos, who choose to overwinter in this wonderful dry climate. The influence of the surrounding mountains ensures calm winters and warm summers, excellent for walking and all outdoor activities.

There are a fabulous range of facilities, with up to date supermarkets as well as shops, tapas bars, and an abundance of open-air cafes and restaurants. There is an open-air market twice a week on Saturday and Monday and lovely plazas in which to walk and relax. The main activites of the Port of Santa Pola are fishing followed by salt cargoes and sport pleasure boats. The Island of Tabarca is the only inhabited island of the region of Valencia and boat trips run daily from Santa Pola. The Fortress Castle was built in 1557 to protect and defend sailors from attacks by pirates and is situated in the centre of Santa Pola where you can now visit the Museum of the Sea.

Inland most of the scenery is breathtaking and within moments you are driving in beautiful open countryside where you can stop and pick a fresh orange or lemon from the thousand of acres of fruit groves that are growing. In addition, fun is guaranteed at Terra Mitica near Benidorm, one of the most modern and attractive theme parks in Europe, with the largest big dipper on the Mediterranean which is open all year. Other worthwhile excursions are to Europe's largest date palm plantations at Elche. The resorts of Guardamar, Torrevieja and Alicante are close by. There are several magnificent golf courses nearby.
